Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s own Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) have been named the best couple in comedy, and we are thrilled for them.
Peraltiago’s love story started back in the first season of the police sitcom, with the pair starting a family and welcoming son Mac in the emotional series seven finale.
It turns out fans watching from home loved watching their romance blossom just as much as we did, with the couple racking up a whopping 47% of the vote – beating out stiff competition from Friends’ Ross Geller and Rachel Green, and Big Bang Theory’s Penny and Leonard Hofstadter.
To be honest, no one else even came close.
But how did your favorite comedy pairing do? Joint last – Dre and Rainbow Johnson, Carla Espinosa and Chris Turk, Moira and Johnny Rose, Michael and Jay Kyle – 1%
Seventh – Leonard Hofstadter and Penny – 2%. The complicated love story between Penny and Leonard Hoftstadter played out from their very first meeting in the pilot episode of The Big Bang Theory, all the way to the announcement that they were starting a family in the finale. But it turns out only 2% of fans were invested Lenny’s future.
Sixth – Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah-Fowler – 3%
Sheldon Cooper once insisted that his romance with Amy Farrah-Fowler was better than Leonard and Penny – and of course, he appears to be right, with Shamy pipping Lenny to the post by 1%. But they won’t be getting the Nobel Prize in love as they ended the poll in sixth place.
Joint fifth – April Ludgate and Andy Dwyer, David Rose and Patrick Brewer – 4%
Schitt’s Creek viewers were left in tears as David Rose and Patrick Brewer got married in the finale, but those tears weren’t enough, with the pair ending up in joint fifth with Parks and Recreation oddballs April Ludgate and Andy Dwyer.
Joint fourth – Ross Geller and Rachel Green, Marshall Eriksen and Lily Aldrin – 5%
Ross Geller and Rachel Green are still the most iconic will-they-won’t-they couple in TV history, but it seems all that faffing only landed them in fourth place, getting 5% of the vote with How I Met Your Mother’s Marshall Eriksen and Lily Aldrin.
Joint third – Monica Geller and Chandler Bing, Niles Crane and Daphne Moon – 6%
Niles Crane fell in love with Daphne Moon the very second he saw her, but it took him seven years to act on his feelings – unfortunately he did so just as everyone’s favourite home healthcare worker was about to marry another man. The pair jumped into a relationship and didn’t look back – and managed to grab 6% of the final vote. They tied in the vote Monica and Chandler – who also sparked their fling at a wedding in London, before returning home and taking things up several notches. While they only made it to third, which Monica will be kicking herself over, they beat fellow Friends stars Rachel and Ross in the overall poll.
Joint second – Leslie Knope and Ben Wyatt, Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly – 7%
Jim Halpert and Pam Beesly may have had The Office US fans jumping for joy when they finally got together, especially after the emotional rollercoaster of that Casino episode, but they were narrowly beaten into joint second place with Parks and Rec’s Leslie Knope and Ben Wyatt. Was Dwight Schrute behind these votes?
First – Amy Santiago and Jake Peralta – 47%
Amy Santiago and Jake Peralta went from colleagues, to friends to a fully fledged married couple, introducing their son Mac in the season seven finale. And we have loved every single second of it.
It looks like viewers enjoyed Peraltiago almost as much as we did, with the pair sliding into first place with a whopping 47% of the vote.
